Use this template to prepare a custom cover letter to a potential investor, enclosing a copy of your business plan for their review and consideration. Key points include (among others):

• It is advisable to approach possible investors by way of referral, and this cover letter is written from that perspective.
  
• The cover letter sets out the amount you are seeking, the percentage of shareholder equity you are willing to offer in return for the investment and for what you plan to use the funds.
  
• Be sure that every cover letter accompanying a copy of your business plan instructs the recipient to sign a confidentiality agreement (which should be included) BEFORE they read the plan.
